WooCommerce vs Shopify Market Share 2026
Both platforms are enormously popular, though measuring their market share is complicated by the different ways tracking services count stores.
StoreLeads data from May 2026 puts WooCommerce ahead by raw store count, with 4.53 million active stores (33.4% of all tracked e-commerce sites) versus Shopify’s 2.66 million.
However, among the top 1 million e-commerce sites by traffic, Shopify leads with 28.8% versus WooCommerce’s 18.2%, reflecting Shopify’s stronger foothold at the higher-revenue end of the market.
What does this tell us? WooCommerce powers more stores overall, predominantly small to mid-sized businesses and content-driven brands where WordPress integration is a genuine advantage. Shopify has greater penetration among high-volume stores where managed infrastructure and simplified operations take priority over customisation and cost control.
Neither platform is going anywhere. Shopify posted $11.5 billion in revenue in 2025 (up 30% from 2024) and continues to grow rapidly. WooCommerce, meanwhile, benefits from its deep integration with WordPress, which powers approximately 43% of all websites on the internet, meaning WooCommerce’s addressable market is enormous.
